Successful restate developer and fashion industry collaborator Avi Oster has had a busy year. His involvement with two recent successful New York City special events confirms his rising status amongst New York’s most influential and exciting figures.
Oster has already achieved a high level of success as the principal of Oster Properties, a real estate management and development company. Oster Properties purchases, develops, and owns shopping centers and residential and hospitality properties throughout the tri-state area.
Even though Avi has carved out the successful real estate career, his passions for philanthropy and fashion have driven him to pursue other opportunities. His most recent venture into the fashion industry has allowed him to collaborate with a number of well known designers and to be a part of Nolcha Fashion Week.
His love of fashion has led him to support some of his favorite up and coming designers. Oster recently co-hosted the Southern Crawl, which was a successful re-launch of designer Catherine Fulmer’s Fall 2011 Collection. This New York fashion event provided guests with a fresh look at Fulmer’s southerly influenced fall line of clothing along with an evening of music and entertainment.
Oster also recently co-hosted 360 Induced, a New York networking event, along with Grammy Superstar Ne-Yo. This event brought together a diverse mix of some of New York’s most talented names in entertainment, fashion, finance, music, philanthropy and government. As Oster becomes a prominent figure that is well known in fashion, real estate, and entertainment, we can watch as his star rises and his influential presence grows.

The use of a private jet has long been a necessity for successful business leaders. Allowing executives to travel in comfort on any schedule, private jets are a key piece of strategy in a global economy. However, the design of the executive jet has changed significantly over the years, trending toward smaller, lighter aircraft – and they may be getting even smaller in the future, according to engineers in the field.
The move toward smaller aircraft is nothing new. Originally, early private jets had a full four engines, mimicking the design of four-engine prop planes of the time. To save on fuel and increase efficiency, aircraft engineers made it a priority to switch to fewer engines. Advances in the reliability of engines, which meant it was no longer necessary to rely on having “backup” engines in case one failed, allowed them to do just that. Today, the Dassault Falcon has three engines and most other private jet designs have just two.
Engineers are pushing that line further though, according to inside sources. New designs increasingly aim for a single-engine plan. The switch has been made possible by increases in engine power and by shrinking the size of the planes to hold less people. The reason for the switch is an increasing preference for low-cost transport among corporations, say analysts.
What remains to be seen is whether the new, smaller jets will crowd out existing larger models in the air charter market, or whether companies will be slow to adopt them. The new jets are expected to be as little as half the price of a new larger jet, but still have to compete with a substantial secondhand market.

The unfriendly bedtime

The doctors called me a case of bad-protoplasm. Not to my face of course, although it was true. Some scoliosis, bad joints, tight ligaments, pigeon-toed… nothing in my body seemed to line up quite right and my immune system must have taken it personally. Hay-fever allergies? Check. Pollen? Check. Cats? Check. Dogs? No, for some reason. Allergic to my own bed? Yes—or rather I would be if I ever touched it before. But, thanks to a few hypoallergenic mattress covers this last little nail in the coffin of my health and well-being slipped when fate went to pound it in. No more dust mites, no more dandruff, or mold. And it definitely makes a difference.
What happened is that my over-active immune system was likely dosed with enough of dust mite waste products when I was little that my body recognized them as something dangerous that needed to be fought off. This will never happen unfortunately. Dust mites are completely harmless little Arachnea that feast on shed human skin cells and multiply into the millions on skin-rich surfaces like your bed or your pillow.
But again, they are completely harmless and microscopically small. But however small they do produce tiny deposits of particular waste (blame your own skin for that) which the body can overreact too. It’s like hay fever or spring allergies every time you lay down on that pillow and bed.
The best solution? Probably expensive therapy to overwhelm the allergies. Next best? A hypo-allergenic mattress in which the buggers can’t survive. Best solution for those of us on an artist’s budget? A zippered mattress pad that you can wash every few days, removing you from your allergen and making nighttime an occasion for the peace and rest that we all (especially those of us with bad protoplasm) need.
